- You are twice as likely to obtain HIV if you are already infected with an STD. It
can be contracted through sexual intercourse or needles during drug use.
- The virus attacks your immune system making it easier for you to catch other illnesses.
- There is no known cure for HIV
- Can lead to AIDS- Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome
- Infection of the female reproductive organs, usually caused by complications from
Gonorrhea or Chlamydia.
- It can lead to infertility and severe abdominal pain.
- PID can be treated if caught in time, but there can still be lasting effects.
- Most common type of STD. Can be transmitted through any form of sexual activity.
- Can cause infertility and PID. Many times symptoms go unnoticed, but often there
is painful urination and a discharge from the penis or vagina.
- Chlamydia can be treated but can be caught again.
- Disease causes small blister like sores that are often painful, along with itching
and burning.
- The sores may last for several weeks and they can reoccur.
- There is no cure for genital herpes.
- There are medications that can help slow outbreaks but it can still be passed on
to others during sexual activity.
- Can cause soft, fleshy warts on the outside or inside of the vagina in females,
but can also appear around the penis or anus of a male.
- This disease can stay dormant in your body and be passed on to other people through
sexual activity.
- It has also been linked to various types of cancer.
- It cannot be cured.
- The warts that result from the disease can be removed, but the virus is never gone
so the warts may come back.
- Can both be passed through sexual intercourse and often involve flu like symptoms.
- Other symptoms may include rash, nausea, vomiting, yellow skin and eyes, weight
loss, itchy skin and darker yellow urine.
- Hepatitis B can be passed through sex or drug use where as Hepatitis C can be passed
through sex with an infected person.
- There is no cure for this disease and can cause serious liver problems.
- The only known way to treat the disease is by having 2 to 3 months of rest, heavy
medication, and proper medical attention, but there is no known cure for either
disease.
- Bacteria that grow in the uterus, anus, throat, mouth, or eyes and can be contracted
through any form of sexual activity.
- Highest disease reported in young teens and African Americans.
- Can cause painful urination, pus like discharges from the penis and vagina, pelvic
pain and swollen testicles.
- There are some strands of the disease that can be treated but it is becoming more
and more difficult as this disease is becoming more complex.
- Causes painful sores that can be passed through sexual activity or direct contact.
- If caught in time, the disease can be treated, however, if not treated it can lead
to heart, brain, and other organ complications and possibly even death.
- The symptoms of Syphilis normally occur in stages
- Primary Stage: Painless sore on the genital area, mouth, or lips
- Secondary Stage: Rash develops on hands,feet, and other areas of the body
- Late Stage: Paralysis, numbness, blindness, Dementia
